Greenhouse Design & Installation Manual – 6m × 12m Polytunnel Structure
ESoliDesign (ESD) partnered with Greenhouse Polytunnels to transform a hand-sketched greenhouse concept into a complete, manufacturable design package.
The project involved modelling a 6.0 m wide × 12.0 m long greenhouse, preparing detailed fabrication drawings, and developing a step-by-step installation manual to guide assembly on-site.
Our deliverables allowed the client to manufacture overseas with full clarity and assemble locally with precision — ensuring consistent build quality and a faster installation process.
Project Scope and Deliverables
Key deliverables included:
- Convert the client’s hand sketches into accurate 3D CAD models
- Prepare detailed 2D fabrication drawings and bills of materials
- Develop a comprehensive illustrated installation manual
- Resolve design ambiguities and improve product consistency
- Optimise component layout for efficient packaging and container loading

Design & Engineering Process
The project began with analysing Arthur’s hand-drawn sketches and identifying key design parameters — width, arch radius, and frame spacing.
Our engineers created a fully detailed 3D model using precise member dimensions and connection geometry, ensuring all parts were suitable for fabrication and consistent production.
During the modelling phase, we worked collaboratively with the client to address minor design issues such as joint alignment, sheet overlap, and frame stability.
These refinements improved both manufacturing repeatability and on-site assembly accuracy.
Once validated, the design was converted into fabrication-ready documentation:
- 2D manufacturing drawings (PDF)
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- 3D assembly exports (STEP)
Installation Manual Development
To ensure simple and consistent assembly, ESD created a step-by-step illustrated installation manual.
This guide included:
- Sequential assembly diagrams
- Component numbering and identification
- Anchor and alignment instructions
- Exploded views for complex joints
- Clear text explanations for field teams
The manual enabled installation teams to complete assembly efficiently — even without direct engineering supervision — significantly improving installation consistency.
Packaging & Logistics Optimisation
In collaboration with Arthur, ESD extended the design process to include packaging engineering.
We analysed the greenhouse’s modular components and developed an optimised packing configuration that:
- Maximised container volume utilisation,
- Allowed stacking of multiple kits, and
- Enabled the entire structure to be packed on a standard pallet.
This streamlined packaging concept reduced freight costs, improved shipping safety, and made delivery and handling from the fabrication origin to the farm site significantly faster and easier.
Project Outcome
This project resulted in a fully documented and manufacturable greenhouse solution that delivered:
- Consistent fabrication quality across production runs
- Simplified and reliable installation in the field
- Reduced packaging volume and faster logistics
- Enhanced collaboration between design, production, and installation teams
The finished greenhouse matched the intended design perfectly, reflecting both the engineering accuracy and practical assembly workflow ESD aims to achieve.
